Adaptation

I got the idea to write this post because of current events that are happening right now. Being able to adapt is one of the most essential skills one should have. It is useful in everyday life, whether it be in college or not. For example, I'm adapting right now myself because I am out of power at my house. I am writing this blog from a friends house instead of my own. If I didn't adapt, I would not be doing my homework and get penalized, something that I don't want to happen.

People have been adapting for centuries. The settlers had to adapt when they first came to this country. If they could adapt to a completely different new world, one can definitely adapt to anything. One just has to try and not give up when everything gets tough. One will never be successful if they give up when things get tough. If they did, there would probably be no America because the settlers would have gave up almost immediately, as adapting to a completely new life was very challenging.

Having the ability to adapt will help you become more successful. One will be able to change what they're doing at the blink of an eye, and have positive outcomes. One must be ready to adapt because you never know when something will happen. Such as today; I didn't expect to lose power and be scrambling looking for a place to do homework. Another example would be adapting to a new school environment. One would be surprised how big of a transition it is to transfer from a community college to living on campus at a university. One most likely becomes self-sufficient instantly and has to do everything by themselves. No parents or guardians are there to guide one or help them when in need. One must adapt to all these changes so that they can be successful.

Adaptation is something that can't be taught. One can't take a class on it and suddenly become an expert on it. No one has a degree in it, it is impossible. It is something one naturally does, one can either do it or they can't. It is learned by observation and experiencing different situations first hand. I personally learned to adapt to multiple situations through my experiences in boy scouts. There were multiple times that we had to adapt because of unexpected situations occurring. It happened so often, that learning to adapt has become second nature to me.

Learning to adapt will take you far in life. It may take you awhile to become good at it, but when one does, it will help them accomplish anything. Just give it time, don't give up, and one will be successful.

Sports!!!

Collegiate athletics is not just popular for current students, it is also very popular to non students. Most people generally have their favorite school they root for in all sports. You don't just always have to be in the stands though, you can get involved in school sports yourself. This can include playing a varsity NCAA credited program, or even just a club team.
Sports are a great way to meet new people and create friendships. It also allows you to get active and participate in activities you've enjoyed doing, or even trying out new ones. Club teams are a great thing to get involved in. They are made for pure enjoyment and bring people together who enjoy doing the same thing. It is your way to play and have fun, since we can't all be big time scholarship athletes. Club teams let every one participate and are run by the members themselves. They raise money for their own uniforms, make team rules, decide what other colleges they will challenge, book all travel arrangements, and arrange their own practices. They are run by player-coaches and have no authoritative supervision.
There are tons of club sports on campuses across the nation. You can find club versions of more popular sports such as football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and many more. They have clubs for everyones preference. If you don't like contact, try ultimate frisbee, disc golf, bowling, cycling, and more. You'd be surprised at what sports and activities you can find available.
Most high school athletes will never get a chance to play at the NCAA level. A recent study by the NCAA showed that only 3.2% of high school basketball players will get the chance to play college hoops, while only 1.2% of those college basketball players will play professionally. With club sports, you have a 100% chance of playing and getting involved. One of the many reasons why they are great to join. Also, you won't have the stress and pressure to perform and be the very best, unlike NCAA varsity sports, where everything is serious.
Club sports allow you to play sports you enjoy, meet new people, and have a good time while keeping focus on your studies.

Work life

One of the hardest things to do while attending college, is having a job. You have to learn to balance time so that you can go to school and get the assignments you have to do finished, but also plan to work an amount of hours.
Many people will recommend not getting a job while attending school because it takes away from your studies. This in fact is true. I know this from first hand experience. My work schedule always affects how I plan to get all my school assignments done, due to the circumstances of my job. I work at Best Buy, in the warehouse. I usually have to be at work 5am, and I can't leave until the truck is unloaded and everything is put away in their proper place. This causes hectic on my schedule because I never know when we are finished. I can work between 6-14 hours a day due to this. Doing this schedule four times a week and going to school full time, makes it difficult to get all my assignments done, and has me playing catch up.
However, working while attending school does have its benefits. It allows you to pay for your education while creating as little debt for yourself as possible when you graduate. You learn new skills that potential future employers could find valuable in their decision to hire you. Working while in college gives you experience in the workplace. Future employers will be able to see that you have a strong work-ethic, have the ability to multi-task, and the ability to successfully balance work and school at the same time.
When picking a job, I recommend you try and get one that is in your interest of studies. I work at Best Buy because I am interested in the field of computer science. Working in a technology store helps me learn a whole array of stuff I might have not known before. Working in a work place that will teach you stuff about your career interest is a very good decision. It allows you the opportunity to get first hand experience on your future job, and can even get you connections to potential employers when graduating college.
If you decide to get a job, be sure to take it seriously. You can't slack off and you have to be responsible for your own actions. Make sure you show up on time and do your job to your highest potential. It makes you look good and can give you benefits in the future, such as a higher rate of pay.
